Entry Background/Description:
During National Cancer Survivor Month, CCC pushed a campaign featuring the survivor stories of Camp Heart Connection campers. This also fell in the week before our first 2022 summer camp kicked off. During one week, we shared the two-part stories of six of our campers, showing them "then" and "now". We posted the first part of each story in the morning and held off on the last part for later in the day so people would come back to see how the stories turn out. For this particular campaign we focused on our childhood cancer survivors to show that being part of the Camp Heart Connection family can be celebratory, even though the core thing campers have in common is cancer. The experience is so positive for them, it was important for us to share with our audiences how CCC programs impacted these survivors then and how they carry that forward today.
Why You Should Vote for Me:
At Children's Cancer Connection/Camp Heart Connection, our goal is to connect Iowa families who are affected by childhood cancer. This campaign was successful in A) sharing "where are they now" information with friends in our social media world who many not have seen these friends in-person in years/decades, B) sharing with potential donors that our work is making a lasting impact and C) celebrating six of our campers who have been through so much to just stay alive. These posts reached nearly 17,000 people on Facebook/Instagram. They were very popular, garnering 812 likes/reactions. We saw dozens of new followers come in as a result of the campaign as well. And, many past campers have reached out offering to tell their stories in the future!
