Entry Background/Description:
Special Love’s plans for overnight summer camp came to a crashing halt when our medical team told us it still wasn’t safe to return to camp with immunocompromised kids. Our staff rallied to produce a series of one-day pop-up camps throughout our service area through Summer Celebration Days. Using nearby (and attractive) venues made each SCD event unique but the promotions tied them together with a unified feel.
Why You Should Vote for Me:
Announcing a third year in a row without overnight camp was daunting, but our team put a positive spin on it by “celebrating” the return of in-person camp – even if it wasn’t overnight. The 6-camp series of day programs was enthusiastically promoted with colorful posts on social media that created a unified feel and, for kids who had endured two years of pandemic-induced isolation, a sense of unity. Parents expressed gratitude for the care and safety with which their children were treated and volunteers were relieved to be back together in any form.
