- Entry Background/Description: We had the special opportunity in working with Beads of Courage to adapt and create a bead program for our camp sessions this year. It was humbling to see that a little adaptation to our existing "Bead Nomination" program/activities made a big difference to both our campers and staff! We did small group and all camp activities, spontaneous moments with leadership, thoughtful "Care Cards" between campers and staff to spread goodness and give the gift of meaningful memories and tangibles reminders of their wonderful and unique experience at camp. These special recognitions and activities throughout the sessions created unity, helped our campers recognize the strength and goodness in themselves and others, and provided a more positive and mindful atmosphere at camp.

Why You Should Vote for Me:
One of the amazing things that we saw with these bead activities was how mindful and purposeful our campers were with their peers. Smaller group activities helped them individually pause, reflect on the courage them have within themselves, and how to look to the future with optimism and purpose. Other bead activities were initiated by the campers and leadership more spontaneously and recognized thoughtful attributes or actions they saw at camp in others. It helped create those meaningful and lasting friendships we try and encourage.
These bead activities helped plan specific times in the week to connect with purpose and genuine kindness. The beads that the campers and staff earned throughout the different weeks are now reminders to them of a place of belonging, hope and fun! It also helped unify our staff as we could count and go through all the positive notes/nominations. It was a special opportunity! There is no place like camp!
