What Should the Voters Know?:
2021 Summer, we expanded our online connections program to encompass programming for children aged 4-19 who have had a childhood cancer/blood disorder diagnosis and their siblings. We had 3-day time groups running and our ongoing evening hangouts & 1 to 1 hangouts. With the help of our medical team, we were also able to run 4 “Park Play Sessions.” We know how important it is to keep the virtual connections programs going even when we can go back to in-person activities. We have kids jumping on zoom from the hospital, at home, and even in the car on the way to their outpatient appointments.
This year we were able to start 2 new teen groups. One is a teen girls social & Event night, and the other is our Gamers group. The video attached shows the power of connection. Our goal is to reduce isolation in whatever way works best for the child. The online & in-person programming allows us to meet each child & where they are at.
West Coast Kids Cancer Foundation creates much-needed and family-focused programs to support kids, siblings, parents, and caregivers at every stage of their experience with childhood cancer and blood disorders in B.C. We’re on a mission to provide daily, practical support for families along this journey. Every WCK program is created with direct input from families across B.C. experiencing childhood cancer and blood disorders, so we can show up at every stage of their experience with the support that is most helpful. Through our programs, kids with cancer and blood disorders experience joy; Siblings know they matter; Parents and caregivers know they are not alone
