Entry Background/Description: Camp Heart Connection has held a number of Family Camps over the years for the entire family to attend for the weekend. These weekend programs are intended to provide the opportunity for the families we serve to come together and connect with other families who have gone through a similar childhood cancer journey. Our family camp weekends include activities such as horseback riding, rock wall climbing, zip lining, arts and crafts, songs, campfires and s’mores, and much more.
Why You Should Vote for Me: During the last three years of alternative structure camps due to the pandemic we saw a rising need for parents to be able to have an opportunity time to connect with only other parents. Because of this rise of need we created a special parent connection opportunity for parents to come together while camp staff monitored their children at the campfire. After some trial of what the best activity would be, a parent craft time was exactly what all of the parents needed. We provided a paint by numbers project and all of the parents participated and then gave feedback that they felt more connected to the other families than they had ever before!
