Entry Background/Description:
After 2 long years of virtual summer camp, we finally returned to our camp home and did a little time travelling. Camp Sunshine Through the Decades was our theme and the campers and counselors really got into our decade days. Upon the recommendation of our medical advisors, we planned to have dancing and singing outside. Rather than allowing this to put a damper on many previous camp traditions, we made some positive tweaks and updates. Our traditional camp dance during our Teen Week session is typically in the gym, but to comply with our COVID protocols, we boogied on down to the tennis courts! Here, the “dance floor” was well lit and the space allowed cohorts to safely distance outside. Campers were ready to experience their first SILENT DISCO!
We were fortunate to work with “Silence” and utilized their Silent Disco headphones, transmitters, and DJ inspired safe playlists for a total of $1650. They sent it to us via courier and it was ready to go! As you can see in the pictures, fun was had by all. It was not only a highlight of the week but an incredible finale for the session. We received awesome feedback from all involved. Campers listed the silent disco as a top camp activity – one they would not forget. Even skeptical veteran volunteers who were weary of wavering from tradition found it to be fun and a great event that brought everyone together. The silent disco was our way of continuing our beloved dance while ensuring safety for all Camp Sunshine campers.
