Entry Background/Description:
Every year, Camp Rising Sun chooses a theme for our Camp Week. And every year, we try to make our opening day POP with that theme -- as campers arrive, they know exactly what the theme is and get excited for a fun week ahead.
2023 may have been our best year yet. Our camp theme was Safari and everyone got into the spirit. Each cabin was designated with an animal and cabin staff decorated -- and in some cases, dressed up -- accordingly. We regularly use golf carts to help campers get around camp, so of course those were decorated to look like safari Jeeps. And what would a safari be without animals? Well, we managed to find 20+ foot tall inflatable animals to line the road on the way into camp.
To top if all off, a few of our handier staff members spent much of the summer designing and building the Safari Gate. It opened and closed via remote control, had built-in speakers playing safari and animal sounds, and even had dual fog machines -- it was AWESOME! - Why You Should Vote for Me: Campers and parents couldn't stop talking about their arrival and seeing all of the safari decorations and activities. Best of all, the whole thing was put together by our volunteer staff, who definitely deserve some recognition for their efforts and the impact!
