Entry Background/Description:
Camping the Night Away is Children’s Cancer Connection’s biggest annual fundraiser. No camping involved, just a lot of camp-themed fun! Guests are welcomed with a signature camp-themed drink and enjoy food, drinks, friendship bracelets, auctions, a family speaker and more! Our auction featured over 90 packages- one special item was a hand-painted chair by one of our Oncology campers. The family who won it is a long-time CCC supporter who lost their son to cancer in the early years of Camp Heart Connection 35 years ago. Guests had a blast and the winner even donated his winnings back to the event!
What really made this year special was knowing that all the funds raised helped us return to full pre-pandemic camp formatting. Attendees blew our goal out of the water and helped us raise over $100,000 for the first time in this event’s history (up from $75,000 in 2022); helping ensure all six camp programs stay free to over 800 families served across Iowa. - Why You Should Vote for Me: For the first time in this event’s history, sponsors and attendees helped us raise over $100,000 in support of camp programs! All of CCC’s camp programs are 100% free to each camper, so exceeding our fundraising goal for this event was a big deal to us. Equally important, attendees got to see what camp was all about with cabin named tables, friendship bracelets and hearing from a family speaker.
