- Entry Background/Description: Prom is a staple at our overnight camp program in July. Year after year, our campers look forward to their "big night" at prom. This year, we traveled back in time to the 1980's to celebrate Camp Happy Days 40th Anniversary. Campers enjoyed a night of dancing, a boom box bounce house, and 360-degree photo booth. Prom at Camp Happy Days is not just a 2-hour event on Thursday night. Preparation starts Monday when our campers have the opportunity to pick out a prom dress or suit at our Glitz n' Glam boutique. During the next two days dresses are altered as needed to fit the campers perfectly. Then the afternoon of prom, the campers head to the Glitz n' Glam salon for hair and makeup. Once everyone is ready, a variety of vehicles go from cabin to cabin to pick up campers and chauffer them to their red-carpet entrance. To say this event is an elaborate and well-loved tradition feels like an understatement!

So much thought and preparation go into prom each year. All prom dresses and suits are donated, and then campers get to keep them post prom. We reach out to various local salons to support us in the hair and makeup prior to prom. We want prom to feel as real as possible as many of our campers may not get to attend their school prom. We bring in a DJ, food vendors and photobooths and photographers to provide a truly authentic experience. Back to the 80's prom introduced the bounce house for our younger campers and it was a big hit! Prom is a magical night for our campers and volunteers that everyone genuinely looks forward to each year. We love being able to make our campers feel beautiful and special.
