  • Entry Background/Description: Out Day is a Camp Delight tradition that began many years ago when we decided to take our full camp off-site for the day. It started as a trip to St. John's in a school bus to go swimming or bowling, and has evolved into an action-packed day full of surprises. The motive behind it initially was to expose our campers to activities that they may not have tried due to their sickness and time in hospital. Many of our campers live in rural Newfoundland, only travelling to St. John's to visit the Janeway Hospital, so Out Day is also a time to experience activities they don't have in their small town.
From the moment campers arrive, they are asking "When is Out Day?" and "Where are we going on Out Day?". It is a camper favorite and it creates a ton of hype! The date and location of Out Day is a secret and volunteer organizers try to out-do themselves every year. Out Day is announced at breakfast, and it is an excited frenzy as everyone puts on their camp shirts and head for the bus.
  • Why You Should Vote for Me: When the party busses arrive at Camp Delight, you know that Out Day is here! Music was blasting as we made the hour-long drive from Carbonear to St. John's, Newfoundland. This summer, our first stop was Clay Cafe for pottery painting with a special musical performance and a pizza lunch. Next, our younger campers went to Cirque'letics for aerial silk acrobatics and juggling, while our older campers went to Escape Quest to solve a series of puzzles and escape their room. Our final stop of the day was a private party at a concert hall, including a buffet supper, face painting and balloon animals. Musical guests included School of Rock and Spirit of Newfoundland, who performed traditional Newfoundland music and taught our campers how to play the spoons. Campers were exhausted after a fun-filled day, and immediately started to guess our Out Day plans for next year!
